About Campus Life
The Biscayne Bay Campus (BBC) is a branch campus of Florida International University. With a student body of more than 7,000, it is the largest branch campus in Florida’s State University system. Encompassing nearly 200 acres, the scenic campus offers direct
access to the Bay, apartment-style housing, a library, an aquatic center, a conference center and a ropes course. FIU’s School of Hospitality and Tourism Management and Journalism and Mass Communication are headquartered at BBC. The campus also offers numerous other undergraduate majors and selected graduate degrees in Arts & Sciences. Courses in Business Administration, Public Affairs, Criminal Justice and IT are offered to complement programs available at the University Park Campus. A shuttle bus runs continuously between the two campuses throughout the day for a minimal fee.
The Department of Campus Life at the Biscayne Bay Campus aspires to engage students in holistic learning by instilling diversity, leadership and personal development through it’s program and services. Through education and mentoring, Campus Life seeks to provide our students an opportunity to make meaningful connections and become leaders in a global community.
The Department of Campus Life provides a variety of programs and services to students and University community.
Students’ academic learning is enhanced through their active participation in additional educational opportunities in the areas of leadership development, communication and organizational skills, services, event planning, and evaluating techniques. There are many areas in which students may choose to become involved, including: Student Government Association , Panther Power, Student Programming Council, Student Organization Council, Black Student Association and Multifaith Council.
Professional staff members are also available to assists students in pursuing their interests.

WORK HARD, PLAY HARD!
Held second annual South Florida Collegiate Programming Expo on June 17th and 18th at Biscayne Bay Campus.
Held third annual joint campuses FIU Student Leadership retreat on June 24th - 26th at Lake Placid Camp and Conference Center.
Held all-nighter for the poor event on November 19, 2010 at Biscayne Bay Campus increasing revenues generated for the community.
Partnered with office of undergraduate studies and SGA lectures committee to bring author of the common reading book (Jaed Coffin) to Biscayne Bay Campus as a lecturer for diversity day held October 20, 2010.
Developed s "Go Green" initiative for the office of Campus Life using eco friendly products.
Campus Life and Orientation staff along with BBC Peer Advisors served approximately 1,000 new transfer and freshman students throughout the orientation season.
Campus Life and Orientation staff co-sponsored FIUs annual Leadership Summit in February 2009 which attracted over 250 students; Director of CLO arranged for the participation of Johnson and Wales University students in the summit that included additional funding of almost $3,750 towards the event.
Campus Life and Orientation assisted the Office of Multicultural Programs and Services in the development and implementation of a GLBT grant proposal which was awarded by the Dade Community Foundation.
Campus Life and Orientation along with SGA hosted American Student Government Association’s Conference for Advisors in July 2008 for the third year in a row.
Student Government Association sponsored “Rock the Vote” on October 29th, 2008 that included a voter education fair with representatives of political parties and candidates as well as shuttles to North Miami’s advance election site.
Student Government Association Lectures Series sponsored three major lectures including Eddie Daniels in November 2008, the Reverend Joseph Lowery in February 2009, and Dustin Lance Black in April 2009.
CLO Signature Events & Themed Weeks
Biscayne Bay Campus is home to many organizations and recreational activities that help promote student development on campus. The Office of Campus Life & Orientation offers a wide variety of events ranging from Late Day Latte to Midnight Breakfast. Whether you take classes in the morning or late at night...we’ve got you covered!
Late Day Latte
Late Day Latte is a free event offering coffee, refreshments and entertainment to commuter students. Presented by Campus Life & Orientation, this event is funded by SGA (BBC) and the Division of Student Affairs. This is a great opportunity for commuter student to relax, grab a coffee before class, and obtain information on what is currently happening around campus.
Looking to take a study break during Finals? Then Midnight Breakfast is your answer. This event lets students take a much needed break from studying for a fun-filled event that offers yummy breakfast, massages and more. Kicking off at 11:59 p.m., this free FIU event is offered every semester during finals week to help students get re-energized and refocused!
Passports are not needed for this trip to the Pacific Island. Offered every fall during Welcome Week, Freshman Luau is one of our largest events, offering a taste of the Islands with a scrumptious lunch, hula dancers and much more. Come one, come all, because this event is open to all students!
Welcome Week BBQ
What better way to kick off the semester then with FREE FOOD! Welcome Week BBQ is an event offered on the first day of each semester that allows students to fill up on a hearty lunch as they trek through the first week of school. While filling up on hamburgers and hot dogs, students can also flex their creative muscles at our arts and crafts table.
Blue & Gold Breakfast
Campus Life & Orientation goes traditional with our Blue & Gold Breakfast served up each semester during Welcome Week. Show your SPIRIT AND PRIDE while you fill up on a breakfast fit for a panther, and get ready to tackle a full day of school with a mighty ROAR!
